Baby Shower Favors

So recently I was asked to make party favors for my coworkers daughters baby shower. Of course, I immediately froze and instantly doubt any experience or talent I have. Since I always say "Of course I can do that for you", I had no choice but to get in gear and create a memorable, yet simple favor for this special event. So here is what I came up with...
I made sour cream containers. These little favors are made with a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of card stock from Graphic 45 Little Darlings collection, sticky strip, organza ribbon, a baby pic of both the new mom and new dad, and a little stamped image that says "welcome, baby!" and of course candy to fill the containers.

I had a few mishaps- my sticky strip wasn't holding, so I had to reinforce the seam with invisible tape. Not ideal, but I had to do something and honestly you can't even see the tape. Second mishap- I ran out of ivory ribbon, so there are more with pink than ivory bows. Oh well, what are you gonna do. So that's all for me tonight. Tomorrow is the shower and I really hope both grandma and mom like what I have come up with. As for me, I am ready to go back to my Halloween crafts. No more pink for me! Ha ha! Anyway, that's all for now, until next time my friends- have a great weekend.

Halloween day #5

I am back again with project #5 for my 13 days of Halloween challenge. I feel like I needed to switch gears a little, so instead of a home decor project, I made a tag. For the tag I used one of my Prima Doll stamps and paper pieced, fussy cut, and stamped the old fashion way.
For this project, aside from the dollI stamp, I also used a Prima tag, black pigment ink, Echo Park Chillingsworh Manor paper, Echo Park Apothecary Emporium Paper and stickers from the paper kit, scrap tulle, pop dots, washi tape, bling, and black ribbon. Basic paper piecing is a little time consuming, but making this tag was kind of like playing paper-dolls. I had a good time choosing the paper and patterns to create a Halloween version of this doll.
So what do you think? I think my favorite part is the text paper I used for her black hair and the pattern paper to create tights. Also, there is some dimension on the skirt with the tulle poking out. Overall, this was a fun little project and I really like how it turned out.

So that is all for now. I have an ambitious project in mind, so stay tuned as I continue onto project #5. Have a great weekend!

Halloween day #3

Today I am going to show you project 3 from my 13 days of Halloween series.
For project # 3 I decorated these paper mâché letters I picked up at my local craft store. For this super easy project I first traced the letter on scrapbook paper so i can cover the front. I then used black acrylic paint and painted these letters black. While the paint dried, I cut out the letters.
After the paint was dried, I used Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the front of  the letters. I had to be careful that the paper was right side up. This is definitely important when using paper with words on it. I gave the letters time to dry and then I followed up with another coat of Mod Podge to seal them both front, then back, then center.

So that is it! The whole project only took about an hour and it looks great on the shelf. If I didn't have the counter space, it would be easy to staple gun ribbon to the back and make them hangable.  So my friends, I hope this inspires you to get out there and get crafty. Until next time, have a great weekend.

Time out for a long weekend

For all of us worker bees out in the world, let us remember to take a time out this Labor Day weekend. Day in and day out we all get up, get on the freeway, deal with cranky people all day, come home, cook dinner, clean up, and then finally hit the bed...just to do it all over again the next day. What can I say, it is what being an adult is all about. This weekend I am taking a time out and hosting a family barbecue complete with my husbands famous pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. To all my fellow hard working peeps, I wish you all a happy Labor Day!
I even decorated a little since we are
celebrating my birthday. A little Batman never hurt anyone.
Ribs in the oven for a little pre grill preparation.
Tray of toys for the kids
And of course, my pasta salad!
